Tahitian Pearl Trophy Competition Has 3 Objectives
The Tahitian Pearl Trophy competition has three major objectives:
1) Promote the Tahiti cultured Pearl worldwide through jewelry creations by recognized designers. The aim is to show that the Tahitian pearl cannot be easily standardized. That is why this unique gem requires the creativity of jewelry designers in order to give the Tahitian Cultured Pearl the value it deserves. Thus, it is the Tahiti Cultured Pearl that provokes creativity through its size, color and shape and not jewelry designers who impose their creations.
2) Demonstrate the Tahitian pearl's universal appeal and versatility.
That is why the first year of the contest involved national competitions in 17 countries throughout the world. Each country organized its own contest and categories. The second year involved the final competition among the 83 national finalists.
3) Underscore the modern role played by Tahiti CUltured Pearl jewelry, showing its wearability and "à la mode" status within both the jewelry and fashion worlds. The popularity of Tahiti Cultured Pearl jewelry in recent years has expanded from the world of "haute joaillerie" to the world of "haute couture". Today, it has expanded to the world of entertainment, including movie and television stars, and the deluxe world of fashion accessories.
The third objective explains why the jury for the national Tahitian Pearl Trophy competition in each of the 17 countries nearly always featured fashion/jewelry editors. The same was true for the jury judging the Tahiti Cultured Pearl jewelry of the 83 finalists.
