Hong Kong – The final result of the 5th Tahitian Pearl Trophy (Asia) competition has been generated; and there are a total of 30 winners from 11 categories were selected for the international finale. The Tahitian Pearl Trophy (Asia) Award Presentation Ceremony will be held today, at Pool House, Grand Haytt Hong Kong; and this is our honor to have Mr. Alfred Martin, Chairman of Perles de Tahiti G.I.E., Mr. Michel Yip, Minister of Perliculture of French Polynesia, Ms Miriam Bray, Cheif Representative of Perles de Tahiti (Asia) and other celebrities here, to present the prize to the winners.
The Tahitian Pearl Trophy is a creativity-driven renowned international competition. In the past few years, it has been held in Paris, New York, Hong Kong, Milan, etc. Every year, it gains industrial and public recognition with extensive media coverage. The length of the competition is 2 years, all jewellery pieces have been judged by a prestigious jury, which consists of prominent figures from the design, culture and media industries. The winner of each category will be automatically entered into the international trophy contest in 2008; which is the best chance for a designer to step into the international jewellery market.
The 5th Tahitian Pearl Trophy (Asia) has received over 350 design sketches from the Asian Pacific regions. Entries from China comprise over 50% of the total sketches collected. This reflects the values and importance of Tahitian pearls in the China market. This year, over 70 high quality pieces have been selected to advance to the second phase of this stunning competition. 30 design pieces were short-listed by a prestigious jury, which consisted of prominent figures from various industries such as design, culture, media, etc. The contest is divided into 11 categories with a winning design and two runner –ups for each category. They are judged according to different criteria such as creativity, utilization of materials, aesthetics, etc. The winner of each category will automatically be entered into the international trophy contest in 2008.
The theme for this year is “The Song of the Stars”. Designers will draw on their creativity to interpret their concept of the sky and all the beauty that it encompasses to complement the variety represented by naturally coloured Tahitian Cultured pearls. The designers competed in 11 different categories such as accessory, bracelet, brooch, earrings, male jewellery, necklace, pearl row, pendant, ring, sets and other special designs. Out of the 11 winning designs, the winners for the ring, bracelet, pearl row and male jewellery categories were from China. The competition attracts more and more designers and this year, saw the number of competitors reach a record high. We have invited all winners and jury members to this awards ceremony where Huriama Dance Group from Tahiti will perform the “Tahiti Theo Show”.
